Inflation is the silent tax on idle money. See what things will cost later — and what today's money shrinks to.
Illustrative projection using the assumptions you entered. Market returns are not guaranteed; actual results will differ. This is an educational tool, not financial advice.
Inflation means the same basket of goods costs more every year. At 6% inflation, prices roughly double every 12 years — so a goal that costs ₹10 lakh today will need about ₹17.9 lakh in 10 years and ₹32 lakh in 20 years.
The second figure is the mirror image: money kept idle — in a drawer or a low-interest account — loses purchasing power at the same rate. ₹1 lakh today will buy only about ₹56,000 worth of goods in 10 years at 6% inflation. This is why "safe" cash is not actually safe over long periods: its value is guaranteed to shrink.
Use this calculator before setting any long-term goal amount — a child's education, a house, retirement. First inflate the cost to the year you will actually spend the money, then plan investments (use our Goal Planner) that target the inflated figure, not today's price.
